Caseworker

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for a Caseworker on a 2 months contract with a possibility of an extension.

Main purpose of post

You will provide appropriate advice, assistance and support to rough sleepers and people at high risk of rough sleeping, to access suitable housing solutions. You will carry a caseload of homeless and housing advice casework, assessing rough sleepers housing and support needs in line with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017. You will be required to work flexibly and occasionally work unsocial hours. You will work closely with the Council’s commissioned Outreach Team to engage rough sleepers in the community and ensure that rough sleepers receive appropriate advice and support.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering a specialist homeless and housing advice service delivery, which engages customers / stakeholders and enables them to make effective use of the service.
  • Maintain all required records and information. Analyse and interpret complex information, for input into reports.
  • Develop specialist documents / materials / activities to support / promote the service area.
  • Maintain information systems which support the specialist area. Contribute to the development of these systems.
  • Work closely with others to clarify changing customer / organisational requirements.
  • Develop good working relationships, develop community links and communicate effectively with internal / external organisations / partners and stakeholders. Represent specialist area internally and / or externally.
  • Carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others and report any potential hazards or unsafe practices to line manager.
  • Ensure the necessary standards relating to safeguarding best practices/protocols are effectively communicated, monitored and maintained as relevant within the scope of this post.
  • Act in accordance with all policies and procedures which apply to the job and understand the reasons for this.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Educated to 5 5 GCSE level or equivalent
  • Relevant experience or working in a customer focused business environment
  • Experience of flexible working; reacting to changing and urgent priorities in a work environment
  • Experience of delivering practical solutions to challenging problems
  • Experience of having to regularly meet defined standards and targets and report accordingly
  • Experience of negotiating effectively with individuals and their representatives to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of stakeholders including advice agencies, solicitors and applicant representatives.
  • Ability to draft and write complex correspondence including decision letters on legal duties owed.
  • Ability to write case summaries
  • High level of IT skills working with a data base and software applications to produce letters and reports effectively.
  • Able to apply housing legislation knowledge to applicant’s individual circumstances
  • Numeracy and literacy qualification e.g. GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Relevant professional qualification
