Development Control Planner

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an opportunity for Development Control Planner on a 2 month contract with a possibility of an extension.

This position will be a total of 36 hours per week, with hours from 09:00am – 17:30pm.

Job Purpose:

To provide high quality planning services and support.

Job Specific Accountabilities:

• Primarily to assess a range of HS2 Schedule 17 applications, including the production of reports and appeal statements within specified timescales.
• To take part in pre/post application discussions relating to planning applications and planning appeals.
• To respond to customers through a range of channels (for example telephone and in writing) within specified timescales.
• to ensure all Development Management decisions and enforcement action complies with relevant legislation, statutory and other Council plans, policies and guidelines and that these decisions can effectively defended in planning appeals as necessary

Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

• Experience in Development Management including dealing with complex planning applications and appeals
• Ideally experience in dealing with Schedule 17 applications
• Completion of recognised degree, Diploma or other Royal Town Planning Institute exemption qualification.
• Eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
• Thorough awareness of current planning issues and a working knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
