ICT Junior Infrastructure Engineer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for a ICT Junior Infrastructure Engineer on a 4 months contract with a possibility of an extension.

Main purpose of post

The post is located in the ICT services team and reports to the Infrastructure Team Leader. The post holder will work within the Infrastructure team. This post is responsible for working to project deadlines within the areas of security patching and security endpoint installation.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the Council’s physical servers and associated software and equipment.
• Support and maintain the Council’s Windows based servers and associated software and equipment.
• Plan and implement required security and application patching for council systems in line with policy and process.
• Carry out a rollout of endpoint security equipment at remote locations around the county.
• Be aware of relevant Health and Safety regulations.
• Maintain an awareness of legislation and standards relating to the work of the post, including: Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act, Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.
• Be involved in other comparable duties within the IT Services unit consistent with the level of the post and carry out any other duties which may be allocated by the Head of IT Services.
• Adopt a customer focused approach when delivering their service, ensuring engagement with service users and maintenance of an appropriate personal profile,
• Act as an advocate for our service and work collaboratively with colleagues across the whole Council to meet the needs of the people of Shropshire,
• Work with colleagues to meet the team’s key performance indicators, support a culture of team working and ensure the team functions successfully in support of the Council’s corporate and service objectives.
• Meet the behaviours and competencies adopted by the Council in the way in which they achieve their objectives and carry out their work.

Skills/Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs including Maths & English, or demonstrable relevant experience.
• At least a level or equivalent in an ICT related subject, or demonstrable relevant experience.
• Prince2 Certification.
• Microsoft certification
• ITIL Foundation
• At least 3 years’ experience in a high pressure, complex multi-vendor Network Support environment.
• High degree of ICT literacy.
• Good experience of applying security and applications patches to process and programme.
• Good experience of working at remote sites professionally and efficiently
• Experience of SOHO boundary security devices
• Good understanding of Network Security issues.
• Understanding of technical issues facing converged networks.
• Understanding of Disaster Recovery an Business Continuity documentation and testing.
• Good understanding of Internet technologies.
• Running systems over Wide Area Networks/Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
• Remote Desktop support
• Experience and knowledge of server virtualization
• Experience and knowledge of enterprise storage solutions
• Application/Database management
• Experience of database schema design
• Microsoft Windows Server
