Platform Engineer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an opportunity for Platform Engineer on a 6 month contract with a possibility of an extension.

This position will be on full time hours. Hybrid model. Attend the offices 2 days a week, ideally Tuesday and Wednesday.

Job Purpose:

You will develop, integrate and support a living and evolving ecosystem (platform) of self-service capability to improve the pace and quality of infrastructure and development delivery, with high importance placed upon improving operations and management of ongoing costs.

The platform of integrated services will help teams move workloads to the Cloud securely and efficiently, ensuring compliance to standards by reusable and innovative reference architectures, such that adopters can move at pace safely. Where possible, services and engineering practices will be extended to existing systems (legacy) to improve performance monitoring, capacity planning, and project and service delivery.

Experience

• You will be comfortable creating infrastructure-as-code configuration and modules with Terraform, ARM, or Pulumi
• You will have deployed and supported containerised applications running in Kubernetes
• You will have built and maintained CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
• You will use scripting languages and command line tools such in your day-to-day work
• You will have some exposure to and knowledge of modern logging and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Log Analytics, New Relic, or Datadog
• You will have knowledge of some cloud platform design patterns and best practices and be able to work with Cloud Architects on design of new systems
• You will have a basic knowledge of common database and caching technologies, such as Azure SQL or CosmosDB and an ability to perform rudimentary operations on them such as simple queries and creation of user accounts etc
• You will have had some experience with a high-level programming language such as Java, Go, C#, or TypeScript in the past and the ability to read source code
• Where needed you will be interested in participating in the Open Source Community (filing Issues, fixing bugs, adding new functionality) for the Open Source tools you use
• You will have worked in an iterative/agile team and be aware of Agile practices
• You will be comfortable with self-learning and used to working on hard problems
