Court of Protection Officer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Court of Protection Officer on a 3 month contract with the possibility for further extension.

Main responsibilities:

• To protect the property and financial affairs of vulnerable adults, who are subject to Court of Protection.
• To act under the delegated Court appointed Deputy to enforce the court order on behalf of the Court, the Local Authority and the client.
• At all times the Post Holders must adhere to the Directions of the Court Order, and meet the Local Authority Deputy Standards set by the Office of the Public Guardian and act in compliance to the Mental Capacity Act.
• Open Deputy bank accounts on behalf of the client and consolidate personal assets and identify and secure assets savings and investments.
• To gather information in respect of the client’s personal money, investments pensions annuities and other such assets belonging to them and contact each individual body.
• Attend weekly bank meetings to instruct on any necessary transactions relating to individual cases, deposit/withdraw cash and secure any cash found during property searches.
• Liaise with the Court, Social Workers & other Local Authority staff, HMRC, DWP, and other government bodies & financial institutions on behalf of and in best interest of the client.
• Act within the authority issued by the Court to ensure that private and rented properties are dealt with in the client’s best interests when conducting searches of the properties and the removal and safe keeping of personal items, and to arrange storage and/or the sale and disposal of furniture, effects and the property
• Ensure that all financial information is recorded on relevant ICT case management and reconciliation systems (Liquid Logic, AMS and Casper) including the reconciliation of client’s bank accounts.
• Monitor funds and ensure the payments of any liabilities of the Client are paid, and set up the agreed regular personal allowance for the Client.
• Seek independent financial advice, where appropriate, to maximise the return on the client’s savings, investments and other assets, in order to safeguard individual’s finances
• It must be understood that every employee has a responsibility to ensure that their work complies with all statutory requirements and with Standing Orders and financial Regulations of the client, and to ensure that all work functions are undertaken in accordance with health and safety legislation, codes of practise and the client’s safety plan.
• To ensure COP representation at appropriate meetings in relation to an individual client and their family members.
• Advise and explain to Social Workers and family members the procedures relating to deceased Clients subject to Court of Protection regarding the funeral and estate.
• .Report to Office of the Public Guardian Visiting Officers on open/active cases.
• To provide guidance and training to appropriate staff.
• To carry out any other tasks reasonably required of the post holder
• To ensure compliance with the client’s policies on diversity, equal opportunities and health and safety.
• To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post with full regard to the clients Equal Opportunities Policy and any other policies and good practise guides and undergo such training as may be required in relation to these policies and guidelines.
• Develop the client’s commitment to equal opportunities and to promote non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of work undertaken
