Front End Developer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Front End Developer on a 3 month contract with the possibility of further extension.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead or contribute to the scoping, development and implementation of new pieces of functionality for our client’s website and other web/browser based UI’s (internally and externally facing).
  • Take responsibility and accountability for delivering high-quality, high-performance Front End design implementations.
  • Work effectively alongside UX Designers, Back End Developers, Testers and other front end developers to develop digital solutions.
  • Understand and, as directed, apply best practice principles of usability, information architecture, design and coding standards to all online products, including those elements developed in other departments, to ensure a seamless, easy to use user journey
  • Support the development of a strategic approach to self-service – the ability of customers to do transactions and make requests in a seamless online environment.
  • To apply best practice in design, usability and development.
  • Implement Front-End related changes within the Content Management Systems and third party applications.
  • Create and improve new and existing products, platforms and transactions. Such as campaign (internally built) and promotional (externally built) sites
  • Being involved in the wider web development community, identifying good practices we can adopt and sharing our experiences
  • Sharing knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team, both developers and non-developers
  • When required, provide assistance to the 2nd-line support of applications and platforms, including occasional support outside of office hours.
  • Assisting in the management of supplier relationships.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders including all areas of the client’s Digital Services, and external suppliers.

Essential requirements:

  • A qualification or demonstrable background and deep understanding of modern User Interface technologies, including JavaScript, Angular JS, CSS3, HTML5 and associated technologies. Sitecore and web API experience desirable.
  • Experience in developing for large-scale, high-traffic websites that use complex content management systems and workflows
  • Experience in developing for complex websites including trouble-shooting on issues as they arise and working with technical suppliers and others to proactively resolve problems or develop new solutions
  • Experience in using of web statistical packages such as Google analytics and how to use them to identify improvements to user journeys and experience
  • Experience of project management principles as applied to web development and ability to multi-task across a variety of web projects and to prioritise under pressure
  • Work collaboratively within a team, experience of working within Agile development projects an advantage
  • Detailed understanding and experience of web and digital development (HTML/CSS/JS)
  • Experience with Local Authorities
  • Ability to learn and understand new web technologies and how to use them to improve online services, including how to integrate them with existing online systems
  • Working knowledge of Responsive Web Development and all browsers and Rendering Engines
  • Working knowledge of using Sitecore content management system
  • An understanding of data integration, SQL and some .NET
  • An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • An ability to review and constructively critique others code
  • An ability to maintain effective performance in difficult and challenging circumstances, encouraging others to do the same
  • An ability to work collaboratively within a team, experience of working within Agile development projects an advantage
  • Knowledge of: JavaScript, Angular JS, CSS3, HTML5, Sitecore, API
