Finance Assistant

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Finance Assistant on a 3 month contract with the possibility of an extension.

Specific Responsibilities:

• To work in the Technical Accounting Team on a fixed term basis with a particular focus on assisting the team to address a backlog around producing the Statement of Accounts and progressing them through the External Audit process to final versions being published.
• Ensure that the team’s records are well organised to enable efficient access to information to deal with queries raised.
• Log all queries received from external auditors and distribute to relevant officers for response under guidance of Senior Accountant.
• Collate responses received in response to audit queries and following review by senior members of the Technical Team, upload to External Auditor’s online portal.
• Follow up with relevant officers where responses are not received promptly, escalating in accordance with agreed guidelines.
• Assist with other general administrative duties within the team as required.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of a financial accounting package used by a larger organisation
• Basic knowledge of accounting practices and entries
• Experience of working with spreadsheets
• Working knowledge of other computerised products, particularly word processing and email.
• Preferably a qualification in bookkeeping or previous experience of working in an accountancy environment.
• Work to the agreed standards and processes
• To advise colleagues when requests are made that conflict with agreed priorities.
• The ability to communicate information clearly in written and verbal form.
• Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
• Attention to detail, the ability to accurately and to check output
• Good spreadsheet skills
