Finance Assistant

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Finance Assistant on a 3 months contract initially with a possibility of further extension.

Main purpose of the role:

To assist the Senior Accountant with all aspects of budgeting, financial control, closing of accounts, maintenance of accounting systems and advice to other departments.

Summary of responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of budgets in consultation with departmental officers.
• Assist in the preparation of the final accounts in accordance with accounting standards, providing reasons for all significant variances from approved budgets.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly budget monitoring reports to Directorate and Departmental Management Teams, Chief Officers and Members.
• Maintenance of the financial systems including budget input, budget adjustments, journal transfers, bank reconciliations, code maintenance, etc.
• Provide financial advice to departmental officers.
• Ensure procedure notes for all areas of work for the section are updated regularly.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s including Maths and English.
• Preferably AAT qualified or actively studying for a financial qualification
• Knowledge of the principles of accounting, budgeting and budgetary control.
• Local Authority Experience
