Assistant Engineer – Road Safety – Traffic Management

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for an Assistant Engineer – Road Safety Engineering on an initial 3 months contract with the possibility of further extension.

Responsibilities and Duties

• To participate in fully embracing and developing corporate and central government initiatives, to enable the client to deliver its services with full public participation.
• Assist in allocating resources to assess, procure and deliver safety engineering programmes and policies, to agreed budgets, timescales and standards, leading to the achievement of the Service targets and the locally agreed road safety targets
• Assist in planning for the development of existing and implementation of new procedures, systems and equipment to meet continuous improvement objectives and Best Value.
• To attend site visits and meetings (some of which may be in the evening), presentations, and exhibitions when required as a representative for the Service and Portfolio. Promote, market and image build the Service by way of presentations, written and visual material and any other appropriate means.
• Monitor and provide as requested, information/reports to Senior Officers and partners both internal/external on collision data and road safety engineering projects, particularly in relation to timescales, cost and quality.
• Strive to improve communication both within and outside the team.
• Ensure that all appropriate design standards and procedures are followed.

• Maintenance and operation of the computerised database of road traffic collisions and associated facilities;
• Statistical analysis of RTC data for work programmes;
• Identification of collision problem sites, routes and areas, and production of priority lists of sites for investigation and possible inclusion in the local safety schemes programme/NRF funded road safety programme/Merseyside Road Safety Camera Partnership and other work areas within the Transportation Capital Programme;
• Detailed investigation of RTC’s to identify common contributory factors that are amenable to low cost engineering solutions, and the preparation of local safety scheme design briefs;
• Project management of local safety schemes in conjunction with partners/stakeholders to ensure that they are delivered to agreed budgets, timescales and standards, acting as client for schemes designed and implemented by partners;
• Responding to enquiries on traffic safety issues from elected members, members of the public, Neighbourhood Committees, Police and other bodies;
• Monitoring the effectiveness of action taken to reduce and prevent RTCs, in particular against locally agreed targets;
• Undertake safety audits of highway schemes;
