Engineer – Traffic Management and Road Safety Team

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for an Engineer – Traffic Management and Road Safety Team on an initial 3 months contract with the possibility of further extension.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Undertaking traffic studies, including analysis of pedestrian and vehicle flows, etc;
• Assist Principal Engineer Network Co-ordination, with both Co-ordination and management of planned and emergency works on the public highway including supporting the Network Co-ordination Team;
• Investigation, identification and design of traffic management schemes including pedestrian crossings, signs and road markings, on-street parking facilities, facilities for cyclists and disabled people, etc; or the provision of scheme design briefs
• Checking and approval of schemes designed and implemented by consultants;
• Responding to enquiries on traffic management issues;
• Monitoring the effectiveness of traffic management schemes;
• Provide traffic management input to highway schemes, local searches, etc;
• Designing and implementing permanent and temporary traffic regulation orders, etc in conjunction with other areas;
• Providing traffic management support for special events in co-ordination with Assistant Engineer – Event Management.;
• Assessing and processing requests for the use of the city centre pedestrianised areas for charitable displays etc;
• Provide technical advice on traffic management issues, including development control, and to input to the preparation, implementation and review of the Local Transport Plan and other such policies.
• Assist in the delivery of other Highways and Transportation services as directed by Senior Officers.
• Assist in planning for the development of existing and implementation of new procedures, systems and equipment to meet continuous improvement objectives and Best Value.
• To attend meetings, presentations, exhibitions etc when required as a representative for the Service and Portfolio. Promote, market and image build the Service by way of presentations, written and visual material and any other appropriate means.
• Monitor and provide information to the Principal Engineer Network Co-ordnation and Network Support and Clients on traffic management projects, particularly in relation to timescales, cost and quality.
