Housing Solutions Officer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Housing Solutions Officer on a 3 months contract with the possibility of further extension.

The successful candidate will work with clients to find solutions to their housing situation.

You will be responsible for:

• Carrying out Triage duties to quickly and accurately find out the circumstances of those asking the service for housing assistance and giving them advice about the options available to them.
• Drawing up Personal Housing Plans for each client in your caseload. You will help them design a plan, which takes into account their particular circumstances, and help them put the plan into action to resolve their homelessness or threat of homelessness.
• Issuing legal decisions on a client’s application for housing assistance as a homeless person under the terms of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Other duties connected to supporting applicants who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

Requirements:

• The ability to work under pressure in a quickly changing environment.
• The self-motivation to be a successful part of a hard-working team.
• Patience and calm in difficult situations, being non-judgemental and customer focused whilst having good negotiating skills.
• Have a good understanding of Part VI and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 as amended and other relevant legislation as well as client’s Housing Allocations Scheme.
• Have the ability to quickly develop a comprehensive working knowledge of the above relevant legislation to produce legally accurate decisions within legal deadlines.
• Have a good understanding of the many and varied factors that impact upon homelessness, including issues such as domestic abuse, tenancy law and other relevant factors and the legal obligations on local housing authorities.
• Experience of managing a large caseload of work.
• An ability to write legal decision letters in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
• A good track record of working with other agencies to seek to resolve problems with a multi-agency approach.
• A good understanding of the private rental sector along with a good working knowledge of the benefits system.
