Senior Cloud Engineer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for a Senior Cloud Engineer on a 3 month contract with the possibility for further extension.

Main responsibilities:

⦁ This role will work across the whole of the Digital and Innovation portfolio, supporting activity across core IT and technology, customer and digital, and our Smart City ambitions. This will require a proactive and relentless focus on delivery
⦁ Overseeing the organisation’s development and production environments
⦁ Run and build cloud infrastructure and services
⦁ Use open-source, cloud-based technologies to enable our organization to be agile
⦁ Deployment and configuration of DevOps pipelines, code repositories, automated testing
⦁ Assist in the client’s adoption of multi-cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP) services, including but not limited to migration of services into Cloud platforms, implementing and maintaining cloud security and providing administration and configuration of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
⦁ Ensure services are built upon APIs wherever possible, including influencing towards these approaches in outsourced systems
⦁ Use cross-government and other shared platforms wherever possible to meet our needs
⦁ Ensure that all infrastructure built, maintained and run by you and your team meet user need, is secure and good value for money
⦁ Stay on top of emerging technologies so that we can experiment and implement wisely

⦁ Maintain up to date records of our infrastructure and platform services via our CMDB
⦁ Implement processes and tools for monitoring and managing the performance of automated systems and services.
⦁ Work with others to plan and implement complex infrastructure upgrade projects as necessary, managing any risks along the way.

⦁ Provide technical expertise to build and run modern cloud infrastructure
⦁ Support software development in creating and delivering code into production
⦁ Assist with providing prompt and effective technical support for all cloud infrastructure services, ensuring high levels of reliability, security and availability. This includes configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimising all new and existing cloud platforms.
⦁ Work with and manage a range of third-party suppliers to ensure our dependent systems are well-run and cost- effective
⦁ Carry out routine tasks associated with installation, maintenance, operation and control of the installed hardware and software and externally hosted and ‘cloud’ services.
⦁ Support projects as required.
⦁ Ensure delivery of a high-quality user experience, including fit for purpose systems, and high standards of access, availability, usability, usefulness and excellent standards of service.

Requirements:

⦁ Knowledge and experience of modern infrastructure concepts, protocols and standards, including various hosting solutions, security, storage, backup/restore, business continuity and disaster recovery
⦁ Knowledge and experience of managing cloud services
⦁ Follow technology best practices like; Infrastructure as Code, automated patch and configuration management
⦁ An understanding of information security and how to build infrastructure with security controls embedded
⦁ Knowledge of how excellent service delivery can be delivered effectively in a busy and complex technology environment, with a particular awareness of how infrastructure operates in a corporate environment
⦁ Knowledge of the context of infrastructure support services in local government organisations
⦁ Knowledge of GDPR and cyber security best practice
⦁ Experience setting up monitoring and alerting systems
⦁ Hands-on experience troubleshooting cloud and hybrid technologies.
