Council tax officer

Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has a new opportunity for 3 experienced Council Tax Officers on a 3 months contract with a possibility of further extension.

You will need to be decisive and confident in your decision making and have a full awareness of the processes and legislation relating to Council Tax. You will act as a contact person for some customers requiring you to build ongoing relationships, focussing on their needs and collating information necessary to ensure our records are updated accurately and in a timely fashion e.g., high value and risk debtors.

• To accurately maintain and update council tax account records to ensure prompt billing and collection of council tax using the relevant computer system
• To maintain a knowledge and awareness of all aspects of Local Taxation legislation and regulations
• To assist in the effective and efficient collection of outstanding council tax
• To propose and check refunds of overpaid council tax for accounts in credit
• To deal with customer enquiries by telephone and letter in accordance with Service standards
• To provide a high level of customer service at all times
• To negotiate and monitor arrangements within the guidelines set in the client’s collection policy
• To liaise with various external agencies and organisations and relevant officers or agents of the client in respect all council tax liability matters
• To communicate with third parties such as employers in relation to billing and collection of council tax as appropriate.
